Throwback Thursday #23: Poor Righteous Teachers (@wiseintelligent

“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”

Marcus Garvey

Every Thursday here on Quitetrillworldwide we are doing a throwback Thursday. We will pick a jam, a group, album or movie from the past in any genre and give you some info that you may not have known before about that artist.

Hailing from Trenton, New Jersey, PRT was founded in 1989. Poor Righteous Teachers is known as a pro-Black conscious hip hop group, their music is heavily influenced by the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths (5% Nation). Wise Intelligent is the lead MC, he is the most visible and well member of the group. Culture Freedom is his hype man contributing vocals and production. Father Shaheed (dead since May 26, 2014, from a motorcycle accident) served as a DJ and producer.  Poor Righteous Teachers was one of the most creative hip hop collectives of our time. PRT made dope conscience hip hop that can still hold up today with a message that frankly is very needed today.
