DJ Premier has the kind of beats that rappers kill for and has had these head knockers for more than 2 decades. Premo bust on the scene with his partner Guru in the late 80s as the duo Gang Starr and set the tone for the east coast sound of the 90s. However Primo isn’t even from New York, he hails from a small town in Texas called Prairie View and also has roots in Houston, Texas 5TH ward. He has become an honorary New Yorker of sorts since moving there in the mid 80s. The sound he created became the “New York” sound complete with stoic drums and dope jazz samples. With the untimely passing of Guru Premo was at a sort of crossroads but Prem is always relevant because beats were and are in demand.
Royce da 5’9 is one of Detroit’s finest emcees, coming up with Eminem and D12 in the early 2000s and establishing him as one of hip hops prime lyricist. He later joined the super group “SLAUGHTERHOUSE” which includes Joel Ortiz, Crooked I, and Joe Buddens.
The joining of these 2 even for one album is a real hip hop head’s dream, a no brainer. The album was released on December 9, 2014, through their own record label PRhyme Records. The album features guest appearances from rappers Killer Mike, Jay Electronica, Common, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, Slaughterhouse, Mac Miller and soul singer Dwele.
The latest single from the album is “Courtesy” enjoy!!
