THROWBACK THURSDAY #7: UTFO “Ya Cold Wanna Be With Me” (@MIXMASTERICE + @therealdocice + @YoKangol)

“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.” Marcus Garvey

Every Thursday here on Quitetrillworldwide we are doing a throwback Thursday. We will pick a jam from the past in any genre and give you some info that you may not have known before about that artist.

Few songs in hip hop history made folks feel as good as “Ya Cold Wanna Be With Me”. It was one of the early love songs of hip hop but it wasn’t a slow song like L.L’s “I Need Love”, it was funky, it had this little tic to it. The rap singing thing is definitely nothing new as you can see. The single was off of the “Lethal” album and was produced by Full Force.

ut2UTFO consists of the Kangol Kid (Shiller Shaun Fequiere), the Educated Rapper (also known as EMD) (Jeffrey Campbell), Doctor Ice (Fred Reeves), and MixMaster Ice (Maurice Bailey). They were originally known as The Keystone Dancers and were a duet, before going on to be dancers for Whodini. Eventually, they went on to form UTFO in Brooklyn, New York. In 1984, the group signed with Fred Munao’s Select Records. That same year they released “Roxanne Roxanne.”
